Proud new partnership—100% recycled waste shingles transformed into Razphalt, a sustainable asphalt alternative with a negative carbon footprint.
For years, Epic Roofing & Exteriors has taken a stand against waste. Instead of sending old shingles to the landfill, we’ve chosen to recycle them into Razphalt, a sustainable asphalt alternative.
We believe this is where the industry needs to go—and we’re not just saying it. We’re investing in it.
We’re excited to announce our strategic partnership and investment in Razphalt, ensuring that more shingle waste is repurposed into roads, parking lots, and driveways instead of being buried in the ground.
It’s a decision rooted in responsibility, innovation, and our commitment to best practices—not just in business and service, but as a global citizen.

North America has a problem: we don’t know what to do with waste shingles. For decades, roofing materials have been stripped off homes and commercial buildings, only to end up in landfills. In the U.S. alone, 15 million tons of shingles are buried each year (the equivalent of around 6 million roofs), with Canada contributing another 10% of that total. It’s a staggering amount of waste—one that has long been in need of a solution.
At Epic Roofing & Exteriors, we believe in tackling industry challenges head-on. Sustainability isn’t just a buzzword for us—it’s a responsibility. That’s why we’ve made a deliberate investment in Razphalt, a game-changing innovation that transforms old shingles into a valuable, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly asphalt alternative.
For years, the industry’s default response to waste shingles has been simple:
"Just drop it in the dump and let someone else take care of it."
But for Epic Roofing & Exteriors, that wasn’t good enough. “The path of least resistance is not one that’s very environmentally friendly,” explains Merlin Bartel, CEO of Epic Roofing & Exteriors.
Our journey into shingle recycling started at our own facility, but as asphalt companies moved away from recycling, we found ourselves searching for a better solution—one that would last.
That’s when we met Stephan and his team, whose work aligned perfectly with our vision. Unlike previous recycling efforts that only repurposed part of the material, this process fully recycles 100% of the shingle, turning it into a new product: Razphalt.
The impact of this innovation is massive. With hailstorms increasing due to climate change, the volume of shingles being torn off and discarded is growing rapidly. “There’s a rising number of homeowners who have serious concerns about our environment,” and they want alternatives to the current waste-heavy model.
Razphalt provides exactly that. Instead of shingles filling up landfills, they can be repurposed into a product with a negative carbon footprint—a solution that not only diverts waste but actively benefits the environment.
Our commitment to Razphalt is more than just an endorsement—it’s an investment in the future of our industry.
✅ We’ve invested financially—because we believe in putting real resources behind sustainable solutions.
✅ We’ve invested relationally—partnering with innovators like Stephan to push this movement forward.
✅ We’ve invested emotionally—because we’re driven by the belief that change starts with action.
And this investment isn’t just for us. We’re committed to making Razphalt a widely adopted industry standard.
"We don’t want to have a corner on the market here; we want way more involvement and engagement from all stakeholders."
Razphalt isn’t just an environmental win—it’s also a smart business decision. It’s a durable, cost-effective solution for projects where traditional hot asphalt isn’t required, such as:
✅ Acreage driveways
✅ Large parking lots
✅ Truck yards
Unlike gravel, Razphalt doesn’t produce dust, requires less maintenance, and actually strengthens over time. “It’s a really clean product that just gets better with time.”
At Epic Roofing & Exteriors, we’ve always believed that true success is measured by how we uplift others.
“We rise by lifting others.”
That’s why this initiative is bigger than just one company. It’s about reshaping the future of our industry—together. We’re inviting contractors, municipalities, and developers to be part of this movement. Sustainability in roofing isn’t a far-off dream—it’s happening now.
We’ve put our name, resources, and belief behind Razphalt. Now, the question is: will you?
